If you think you have any of these gifts, consider applying to be a Connection and Care Minister (CCM). With a congregation of our size, we rely on trained CCMs to serve with each of our pastors and staff in making hospital and home visits, following up on prayer requests, providing one-on-one support for those going through a difficult issue, and much more. CCMs are required to be members of Legacy, participate in a life group or class for their own spiritual growth, and engage in all CCM training. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) We believe the Holy Spirit guided and directed human authors to create God’s written means of communication with us, which reveals God’s love and plan to be in relationship with all of humanity. The Bible is God’s blueprint for living the Christian life and is our source for faith and practice. We believe in one God, who exists in three distinct persons…the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is equally the one God in being, essence, character, power and eternal qualities. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior who came to earth in the flesh to reveal God to humans and to restore all of fallen humanity to a personal relationship with God. We believe Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary; he is both fully human and fully God. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and embodies the truth about God and the Truth of God. Jesus willingly died on the cross to demonstrate God’s love for sinful humans and to provide salvation for all humanity. His sacrifice in our place provides all humans the means to be reconnected with their loving Creator. We believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Jesus ascended into heaven, where he rules as our Lord (absolute authority) and advocate. Jesus will return to earth in the future to establish God’s perfect peace and justice for all time. We believe in the divine personhood of the Holy Spirit as an equal part of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is God present, living within each follower to empower a life that reflects the lifestyle, values and character of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the change agent in the lives of Jesus’ followers, illuminating God’s word for understanding and application in the life of each. The Spirit is involved in progressively transforming each follower into the image of Christ, and is actively working within the Christian community and world at large to bring about God’s plan of redemption for all people and all creation. We believe the Church (also known as the Body or Bride of Christ in scripture) is a spiritual organism made up of all those in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, who are called to live in fellowship and worship together. We believe in the priesthood of all believers: everyone in relationship with Christ is gifted, empowered and called to serve within God’s mission to reach the world. The Church is God’s vehicle on earth to bring about God’s justice and mercy for all people. God is crazy in love with every person on this planet.** …that God’s not a judge who wants to condemn us. He’s not some ogre who wants to harm us. God is a Father. Remember, Jesus called God his Abba, Papa, Daddy who wants to be in an intimate and personal relationship with all us. **…that we experience God’s amazing grace in distinct, definable stages or phases.** …that before we knew God, we lived under “even there,” prevenient grace. God has been trying to get our attention or woo us into a relationship. **…that we come to a moment or a season when we recognize God’s unconditional, relentless love for us, and enter into “even now,” justifying grace. God takes the initiative to restore our broken relationship with him because of sin.** …that God isn’t finished with us yet, because though he loves us exactly where we are, he loves us too much to leave us there. Growing followers of Jesus learn to cooperate with Holy Spirit in the gift of Christian community and experience “even more,” sanctifying grace. This is when we learn to love God and other people even more and our lives begin to reflect the character of Jesus even more. **…that this journey of sanctification leads us to death’s door. Because at the end of our lives, God’s arm is not short! God leads us by the hand through the veil of death as we graduate from this life temporal to that life eternal. We will experience “even when” I die, glorifying grace. Faithful men and women planted a new church across the river in Bismarck which became known as the Bismarck Evangelical Church. In 1907, the congregation made a decision to open a new  hospital bearing the name Bismarck Evangelical Hospital, and over the years this institution merged with others and now resides on the site of our original church, and is known as Sanford Hospital. Mergers and changes were not strangers to the church either as we became the Evangelical United Brethren Church, then merged with the Methodists to become First United Methodist Church. In January 2010, we became Legacy United Methodist Church. Our church has been served by many faithful pastors and lay persons throughout the years. That legacy continues. We have consistently maintained a high priority for missions. Currently, Legacy has ongoing mission and ministry relationships in various parts of the United States, and in Bolivia, Thailand, Ghana, Honduras, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. It is our sincere hope that our legacy will become yours, and together, we will build and leave a Legacy that God desires and this world needs. The Ad Team, along with the pastor, is in charge of the direction of Legacy United Methodist Church. The group meets all together at least quarterly in meetings which are open to the public. Smaller committees may meet more often. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is in charge of keeping the church staffed. The SPRC also updates the employee handbook, is in charge of employee evaluations, and is involved in other Human Resource duties. The Trustees are responsible for the property of the church. They assist with maintaining the building, furniture, equipment, and the church’s land. The Finance Committee is in charge of managing the budget, performing the annual audit of the church books, and directing the stewardship drive. They currently have 51 children enrolled in a local school who arrived in the US within the last five years. The start of the school year can be financially challenging for many newcomer families, so we're helping make that transition a little easier. Plan now for the Christmas Eve 2025 offering and join us as we give extravagantly! The first offerings were given solely to the Ruth Meier’s Hospitality House. In recent years, they have also been given to United Way’s Emergency Homeless Shelter and other regional ministries like new church plants and the Baaken Oil Rush Ministry. In 2022, we raised $30,000, split between the United Way’s Homeless Shelter and the Missouri Valley Coalition for Homeless People. For the past 16 years, we’ve given away over $600,000 to organizations beyond our walls! It’s part of our mission to be a Community of Impact. We'll see everyone who signed up on August 2nd! ##### Connect with us ##### Download the App **REGISTRATION IS FULL AND CLOSED.** **Thanks to everyone for your interest in this event!** Legacy United Methodist Church is hosting a free event to help elementary and middle school students to start the 2026-2027 school year on the right foot! Shoes of Hope is open to the first 200 kindergarten through 8th grade students that registered. **This year's event will be on Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 3 pm to 6 pm at South Central High School,** near Kiwanis Park in south Bismarck. (406 S Anderson St, Bismarck, ND 58504) Volunteers will demonstrate servant leadership by washing the feet of each child, providing a message of hope, and giving each child a new pair of shoes and their own devotion book. This free event includes food, games, and free haircuts! \[Please email [shoesofhopebismarck@gmail.com](mailto: shoesofhopebismarck@gmail.com) if you'd like to volunteer.\] **Students must be** **registered** **and present during the event to receive these gifts.** You should have received a confirmation after you registered. 3:00 pm ##### Connect with us ##### Download the App Legacy Kids strives to be welcoming to all children, wherever they are on their faith journey. We provide a safe, loving, Jesus-filled environment for all children, from babies under 2 years in our Nursery to the Preteens in our 4th and 5th grade class. Throughout the year, Legacy Kids participate in various mission projects and family events. We also have Vacation Bible School every year in June. If you have any questions or if you are interested in getting involved in Legacy Kids, [let us know](mailto:shane@legacyumc.org)! Also, if your child has a special need, please let us know so we can provide qualified staff or learning tools to make their experience at Legacy Kids wonderful! All kids are welcome at Legacy Kids, and no preregistration is ever necessary for Sundays or Wednesdays. **Sundays at 10:00am** – Full Legacy Kids programming. Start at the kids check-in desk, then join nursery, preschool, and elementary kids for worship, large group lessons, and small group activities. **Wednesdays at 6:00pm** – Runs during the school year. Join us for supper at 5:30pm and then check at the kids check-in desk for a large group lesson and games. Pickup time is 7:15pm. Parents are encouraged to stay for Wednesday night adult classes or to volunteer in other Wednesday night activities. **To provide a safe and secure environment in which all kids can learn about Jesus, we use a check in/check out system anytime Legacy Kids is going on. We also run background checks and interview everyone on our Legacy Kids volunteer team.** **Sunday:** Elementary Kids (kindergarten – 5th grade) have a monthly theme which all Bible lessons and activities build on, but each week can also stand alone. Elementary kids experience exciting large group worship with music and a different way of experiencing the Bible story each week. We also have fun, hands-on smaller group activities so kids can see how the Bible story and lesson apply to their lives. **Wednesday:** During Legacy Kids on Wednesdays, we dive deeper into the Sunday morning Bible story and how it applies to our lives. Every kid is welcome on Wednesdays, whether they came Sunday or not. No pre-registration is necessary. **Sunday:** Legacy Kids starts classes for kids at age 3. Preschoolers learn age-appropriate Bible stories and simple, easy memory verses. We have music, hands-on activities, craft projects and games that all help teach the lesson for that week, but there is also a lot of time for free play. We often have simple snacks, such as goldfish or animal crackers, so please be sure to let us know about any food allergies. **Wednesday:** Preschoolers also have their very own class on Wednesdays where they will learn Sunday’s Bible story in a brand new way. Kids love the video element each week, along with the music, games and crafts. **Sunday:** Each week we have a staffed nursery available for kids under 2. If your child needs you during their visit to the nursery, we will send you a text message; we don’t let kids cry for more than a few minutes. Please set your phone to vibrate during the service. **Wednesday:** Each Wednesday evening, Legacy Kids will have a staffed nursery for parents who are attending a class of their own. Babies and toddlers are loved and cuddled by our volunteers. Kids are always welcome in worship if you prefer to keep them with you during service! We encourage families to attend worship together each week, as well as attending an hour of Legacy Kids. The room outside the sanctuary and behind the fireplace is the Family Worship Room. It is available anytime for parents who want to be part of worship, but allow their kids to move around and be a little noisy. You can nurse your child and continue to participate in worship in the Nursing Mom’s Room. There are 3 rocking chairs along with a television and fully stocked room available for use. It is located down the hallway heading to door 3 off the fireplace. As part of recent staffing adjustments, our tech team is transitioning to a primarily volunteer-based model, supported by trained Tech Leads who may receive a small weekly stipend of $75 per service. This role plays an important part in supporting worship and ensuring everything behind the scenes runs well. No prior tech experience is required—training will be provided. Sunday mornings only.
